Joan Davison, Chief Executive Officer

Joan Davison_bw_crop 2_more lightJoan Davison is CEO and President of Hire Counsel, a role she was appointed in 2017.  She brings 28 years of valuable experience, with specific expertise in operations management as well as business development, marketing, recruiting and staffing.

She spent 18 years at Staff Management | SMX (a TrueBlue Company), a global provider of contingent workforce solutions, where she rose from Director of Operations to President, COO and significantly increased sales growth, optimized processes, and developed long-term strategic plans.  Most recently, Joan served as the CEO at Focus Logistics Transportation, an international freight delivery company.  Her previous experience also includes leading the overall operations for Forward Mobility Relocation Services, a national relocation consulting firm.

Throughout her career, Joan has been recognized for her leadership and transformational management. She has been named in the Top 100 Most Influence Executive in Staffing by Staffing Industry Analysts and has received the Gold Stevie Award in the Executive of the Year – Business Services category.  Joan is a featured industry speaker and regular contributor to industry publications. She is a member of Vistage CEO group.  She also served as a Board Member of SeatonCorp and FLT. Joan earned her B.A. in Business Administration and Management from Saint Xavier University in Chicago, IL.

Joan lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her family.  She is an avid Chicago sports fan, a traveler and an aspiring gardener.

Edward Imparato, Chief Financial Officer

ei bwEd Imparato serves as the Chief Financial Officer for HCMC Legal, Inc.  Imparato is responsible for all financial functions as well as the company’s information technology group.  He is a member of the Executive Management team and is involved with developing and implementing the growth strategy of the company.

Ed Imparato spent 25 years of his professional career with United Water, the nation’s second largest water services group. As Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Ed Imparato was responsible for United Water’s strategic planning program and all financial functions including accounting, treasury, corporate finance, financial planning, regulatory business and procurement. He was also responsible for United Water’s information technology group.

Imparato joined United Water, a subsidiary of SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT, in 1987 and advanced to positions of increasing responsibility including manager of corporate accounting, director of financial planning, corporate controller, treasurer, and vice president and general manager of United Water’s regulated operations in a three state Division. Before joining United Water, he worked as an analyst in a publishing firm.

In 2013, Imparato was appointed Chief Financial Officer of St. Dominic’s Home, a diverse, highly regulated not for profit group with programs in: education, social services, foster care and adoption services. Imparato was overseeing all of the fiscal, and information technology functions and was a member of the Executive Management team.

Imparato currently serves on the board of directors of a technology company, FLOWatch. Active in higher education, Imparato is a member of the accounting advisory committee for Bergen Community College. He is also on the board of trustees of Dominican College where he serves as chair of the fiscal committee and as a member of the audit committee. Imparato is also a guest lecturer at New York University. In addition, he is a member of the finance steering committee for Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey. In 2013, Imparato became a mentor for New Jersey Youth Challenge Academy. Recently he was recognized as an honorary member of Sigma Beta Delta International Honor society for Business.

Imparato holds an M.B.A in finance from Iona College, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the City University of New York (CUNY) with a B.S. in accounting. Imparato also holds an A.A.S. in computer science from City University of New York (CUNY).

He is a Certified Management Accountant and a member of the Institute of Management Accountants.  In 2010 NJBIZ named Imparato “CFO of the Year” for private companies. In 2015, CFO Studio’s awarded Imparato a “CFO Innovation Award.”

Mary Wenze, Corporate Controller

mw bwMary Wenze, CPA, has over 20 years of experience as a finance professional in the staffing industry.  She worked with staffing companies first as a CPA in public accounting firms and then as a CFO in privately held companies.

At Hire Counsel, she manages and has developed a team of over 10 people creating an efficient and organized finance department that provides critical cash flow and reporting in a timely manner, including budgets and forecasts. Mary coordinates with banks, taxing authorities and auditors to maintain compliance with those institutions.

She has been instrumental in working with the Board of Directors and internal staff in planning and managing the Hire Counsel business.

Mary has a B.S. from New York University and an M.S. degree in Accounting from CW Post.

Alison Chin, Executive Director of Marketing

ac bwAlison Chin is Executive Director of Marketing for HCMC Legal, Inc. She directs and executes the firm’s marketing initiatives, with a focus on marketing strategy and brand positioning. Her responsibilities include branding and design, sales collateral, thought leadership, website and social media content, trade shows, RFPs, and both internal and external communications. She is committed to strengthening overall marketing communications and aligning all marketing efforts with the firm’s strategic objectives.

Alison brings more than 15 years of experience, primarily from the financial services industry. Prior to joining the company, Alison worked in marketing at Fred Alger Management, Inc., an investment management company. Throughout her career, she has served various roles, including marketing for Dreisbach Design, Inc., a design agency catering to alternative investment companies, product management for hedge funds and private equity products at Morgan Stanley, and operations at both Morgan Stanley and AllianceBernstein.

Alison earned a M.B.A. in Quantitative Finance and Entertainment/Media from New York University Stern School of Business and a B.A. in Economics and Art History from Rutgers University – New Brunswick.

Joseph Garro, Director of Information Technology

jg bwJoseph Garro directs and manages all technology strategy at Hire Counsel and its sister company, legal search firm, Mestel & Company. Joseph provides leadership for continued development of an innovative, robust, and secure information technology environment throughout the company. The primary responsibilities for this department encompass a wide variety of strategic technology issues: governance and policy, resource allocation, information technology protocols, delivery of IT infrastructure and services, information security systems and compliance, administrative systems, and client support services.

Prior to joining Hire Counsel, Joseph spent 19 years in informational technology roles in retail, technology and financial services.  Most recently, Joseph served as Vice President of Client Services for Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York, NY.

Joseph Scotto, Director of Human Resources

Joseph Scotto_vanilla_cropped1Joseph Scotto is Director of Human Resources for HCMC Legal, Inc.  He leads all human resources functions, which include employee engagement, company culture, talent acquisition, performance management, business process improvements, and learning and development.  Joseph is dedicated to aligning the human resources strategy with the company’s objectives and positioning the company for continued growth and operational success.

Joseph brings nearly 30 years of human resources experience, which includes companies such as Monster Worldwide, Merrill Corporation, and DTI.  He completed the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) and the Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Stephanos Zannikos, General Counsel

sz bwAs General Counsel for Hire Counsel and its sister legal search company Mestel & Company, Stephanos Zannikos Esq., serves as senior legal adviser, responsible for day-to-day legal operations.

In this role, his responsibilities include corporate governance, commercial transactions, litigation, dispute resolution, settlements, employment, real property, data privacy, governance, risk and compliance, enterprise risk management, insurance, intellectual property, and management of inside and outside counsel.

Previously, Stephanos served as General Counsel for a private equity holding company serving North America and India and Brazil. He also worked for Borrelli & Associates, PL.L.C. and Frank & Associates, both specialists in labor and employment law.

Stephanos holds a J.D from New York Law School and a B.S. in Psychology from New York University. He also served in the U.S. Navy and was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal.

Lynn Mestel, Chairman of the Board

lynn-1 bwLynn Mestel, Esq. is Chairman of the Board at Hire Counsel and its sister firm, Mestel & Company.  She founded Hire Counsel in 1993 and served as its CEO, President, and Chairman of the Board through February 2017.  Her focus is on long-term strategic initiatives, client relations, and business development.   She also works with Board members to set overall objectives, and offer advice and counsel.

After an early career in advertising and marketing, Lynn opened Mestel & Company in 1987 to recruit and place law firm associates and partners and to facilitate law firm mergers. Since then, Mestel & Company has placed hundreds of lawyers throughout the U.S. and helped engineer law firm mergers and acquisitions of every size. In 1993, anticipating a changing dynamic in the legal industry, Lynn expanded her organization by opening Hire Counsel to service the law profession’s growing demand for outsourcing of traditional services performed by law firms, in house legal departments and government agencies.

Lynn’s work and success in the legal industry caught the attention of the National Law Journal, who named her in their inaugural list of “50 Business of Law Trailblazers & Pioneers.” She was also honored by The Women’s Venture Fund in 2013 as one of the leading women entrepreneurs in the U.S. and named in Law Dragon’s “100 Leading Legal Consultants and Strategists” twice, most recently in 2016.  She is a recipient of the Brava Award from Smart CEO honoring top female CEO’s for entrepreneurial leadership and social commitment. The American Lawyer, Crain’s, Forbes, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal recognize her as one of the preeminent professionals in her field.

Lynn attributes a large measure of her success to her early experience working in advertising with major global clients, Procter & Gamble and CIGNA among them, where she developed an understanding and appreciation for sophisticated business strategy, operations management and exceptional client service.

Lynn holds a J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and a B.A. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where she was elected Phi Beta Kappa. She is a member of The Economic Club of New York, the Women’s Forum of New York and is a board member of the Women’s Venture Fund.  Lynn studied music at The Juilliard School and now she and her husband live in New York City near her children and grandchildren.
