24/7/365 – Meeting Am Law 100 Firm’s Need for 60 to 100 Attorneys and Turnkey Discovery Centers During Thanksgiving Week

Client Challenge

Hire Counsel received a call from an Am Law 100 firm the Sunday before Thanksgiving informing Hire Counsel that they would need 60 attorneys, office space and computers for a document review that was to commence the Monday after Thanksgiving. The document review was for a copyright infringement matter that was expected to last approximately 4 months.

Hire Counsel Solutions

Hire Counsel immediately created two teams to meet the client’s requirements.  The recruiting team identified candidates with the required skills and moved them quickly through the firm’s conflicts process.  Simultaneously, a second team was assigned to procure temporary office space that could grow from 60 to 100 people and to arrange for the proper IT infrastructure to support such a project.

Building the Review Team

The recruiting team manager utilized Hire Counsel’s proprietary national database to create a list of several hundred candidates – 4 times the number needed – who met the client’s substantive requirements. Every step in Hire Counsel’s project management process is documented, for each candidate, to ensure the paperwork is 100% accurate upon submission of a candidate to the client. This is true business value to the client.

Once the team was assembled, Hire Counsel identified and provided six supervisory attorneys – Administrative Project Managers (APMs)– with Hire Counsel’s demonstrated management and leadership skills. Hire Counsel’s efficient APMs allowed the client’s attorneys, paralegals and professional staff to focus on the substantive issues of the matter.

Assembling the Review Centers

Hire Counsel tapped into our extensive national network office space and IT providers to identify all of the locations that:

  • Accommodated 60 contract attorneys and the firm’s management team,
  • Could expand to accommodate 100 contract attorneys, 
  • Provided a fiber optic internet connection that could be ramped up to100MB if needed, and
  • Was located one block from a public subway station which made it easily accessible for the contract attorneys and the firm’s staff to travel between the project site and the firm

Hire Counsel negotiated the leasing terms, provided and tested 60+ computers for the project start and prepared a roll out plan to expand the project on demand.

As with any large project, the local Hire Counsel management team was on site and remained onsite as needed to ensure that the client’s business objectives were being met. 

Toward the end of the review, additional documents required review. Working closely with the attorneys in charge of the review, Hire Counsel placed 40 contract attorneys in a second document review site.  Additionally it was determined that we would need to run a three shift schedule at both locations, operating 20 hours a day, with no attorney working more than eleven hours per day. In doing so, the Hire Counsel teams fully met the client’s deadline.
